Duration: 2 day Master Class
Some think of the recent devastating Victorian fires. I think Holocaust. Some may think of a familial loss. No matter what the tragedy, natural or man-made, often we are not prepared when the time strikes. Well now you will be!
Preserving our precious memories, photo’s and memorabilia as a "just in case" situation is the theme for our workshop. We will spend 2 days creating a book based on an Antique Victorian photo album using Judy’s unique bookbinding techniques.
It will be portable and very dimensional – allowing for 8 or more mixed media pages.
We all have our favourite photos of family and or those closest to us. My experience with documenting people’s life stories reveals that we only need a few photos to preserve the memories. The subject matter is your choice. You will learn how to use symbolism, colour, texture, found objects and your memorabilia to tell the story of those nearest and dearest to you – WITHOUT WORDS.
*This is a master class that is project and technique based, students who are afraid of using power tools or cannot use their hands to cut heavy board will not be suited to this class

Waxy Layers - THREE VACANCES ONLY
Duration: Full Day Skill Level: All Levels
We will explore new surface techniques as we create textured paintings of paper, paint, and collage, mount them on wood, then continue tobuild up the surface with more paint and a layer of encaustic wax tha twe will transfer onto, incise, and glaze with oil based pigment.
This is a class to help all levels think outside the box when creating mixed media paintings.

Urban Icons

Join Laurie for an intensive, technique driven workshop creating mixed media mosaics.
In creating our Urban Icons you will learn a variety of overlapping techniques that include: mosaic design, painting, rubber stamping, collage, embossing, beading, and embedding just about anything into polymer clay. The result will be a personal and beautiful icon that can be hung on the wall or displayed on a plate stand.
This will be a hands-on workshop where students will get the experience of making and baking their own tiles and component parts.
This is a workshop where you get to use all that stuff you've been collecting over the years!
No previous clay experience is required, so come join the fun

Altered Surfaces CLASS FULL - WAITLIST ONLY
Duration: Full Day Skill Level: All Levels
Add color, layer and style to your metalwork. Learn personal methods, formulas and techniques for altering, patterning and coloring the surface of sheet metal. Work with hand made traditional and nontraditional formulas to create colorful patinas or emulate artifacts from a lost civilization.
Build dimensional pieces by dapping, folding, forming and cold join manipulation. Use these altered metal pieces to build a unique bracelet. Jewelry techniques include clean up, polishing, design, color and layout of ideas.
Kit fee includes: copper and brass sheet metal, sandpaper, patina solutions, eyelets, hand out and expendables
While this class works well as a lead in to the Talisman Bracelet

Stamp Carving
Thursday Evening: 7pm to 10pm
Class Cost: $40.00
CLASS FULL WAIT LIST ONLY
In this class you will learn how to carve your own stamps from your own designs or from images from magazines, wrapping paper, leaves, flowers, or anything that can be simplified into a stamp design.
You will learn how to simplify and transfer the designs to your carving block, how to carve the stamps for use with stamp pads, acrylic paints or inks and stamp them onto paper, canvas or fabric.
One of the Ezy Carve blocks will give you approx 8 stamps 70mm x 55mm. You can make them larger or smaller depending on your designs. This is a very economical way to have lots of stamps that are your very own designs.... you can even make your own alphabet!
